Culloden & the Cairngorms
We begin this tour with the drive to Culloden where we take a leisurely stroll around the battlefield (refer to the Culloden Classic itinerary for full details). We then head south to Aviemore, at the heart of the Cairngorm National park, via Moy where we visit the grave of Donald Fraser, the blacksmith who almost singlehandedly stopped the British Army kidnapping Bonnie Prince Charlie at the infamous ‘Rout of Moy’. After lunch in Aviemore, we continue to Ruthven Barracks, where the remnants of the Jacobite army gathered in the days after the battle, only to receive the devastating instruction from the Prince “Let every man save himself as best he can”. From Ruthven barracks we return home, during which there are several options (see below) to break the journey, time permitting.
