Craig Durham was born in London, England, and educated at Bishops Stortford College. He studied Civil Engineering at Bristol University and gained a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Strathclyde University, Glasgow. He moved to Aberdeen in 1987 to work in the then burgeoning oil industry, working offshore as a drilling engineer before settling onshore to enjoy a 35-year career mining the black gold. He developed an interest in military history after watching Richard Holmes acclaimed BBC series War Walks, and over the last 25 years has visited over 50 battlefields, from Agincourt to Balaclava.
He now lives in Aviemore, at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, tour guiding, blog writing and volunteering at the Highlanders Museum, Fort George. Craig is a Trustee of the Inverness City Heritage Trust and a member of the 1745 Association.
